Sunken blocks, ruts in tarmac and cracked resin almost always trace back to what's underneath. A cheap quote is often cheap because it skips depth in the sub-base, the one layer you never see again.
What a proper base looks like
Ground dug out to the right depth for the surface, a geotextile membrane to separate soil from stone, then crushed aggregate compacted in layers. For a car drive that is typically 150mm of sub-base or more.
Edges and falls
Edges set in concrete stop the surface spreading over time. The drive is laid to a gentle fall so water runs away from the house and into a drain or soakaway.
Questions to ask any installer
Ask how deep they'll dig, what sub-base they use and how it's compacted, and how water will drain. A good firm will answer without hesitating and put it in writing.
